Governor Rick Snyder signed legislation authorizing $102.1 million in grants from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF). The bill funds 117 recreation projects and land aquisitions that were recommended by the MNRTF board in December. Newaygo County has 3 projects that will be funded:
City of Fremont: will receive $180,300 for development of Fremont Lake Park, including expansion of walkways to the beach, picnic area, fishing pier, linkages to existing Town and Country bike/pedestrian path, epxansion of existing campground and a restroom.
Bridgeton Township: will receive $146,500 for development of the Muskegon River Waterwasy Trail, including parking lot improvements, access drive, shore fishing and shoreline stabilization.
Brooks Township: will receive $188,700 to be used to acquire 80-acre tract additions to Coolbaugh Natural Areas Park to be used for hiking and equestrian trails, along with protecting Karner Blue butterfly habitat.
